Equipping the Next Generation Through Adventure-Based Learning
Hinds’ Feet Adventures, founded by Shera Smith, exists to equip the next generation of leaders, facilitators, teachers, therapists, and organizations through experiential education, adventure-based and nature-based counseling, focused on building resilience, social/emotional skills, confidence, and connection through hands-on, transformative experiences grounded in research informed practice and real world application.
Our work is rooted in decades of experience in outdoor behavioral health, therapeutic recreation, and clinical adventure therapy. Over the years, Hinds’ Feet has served youth and adults across schools, courts, treatment programs, and community organizations, using experiential learning to reduce disengagement, substance use, and risky behaviors while fostering purpose, hope, and personal growth.
Today, our focus is on equipping others to do this work as well. We provide training, consulting, mentorship, and co-facilitation to educators, clinicians, and organizations working with youth at risk. Through culturally responsive, inclusive, and practice-based programming, we help build sustainable systems that expand access to meaningful experiential education and therapeutic adventure programming.
Whether on a challenge course, in a learning lab, or through hands-on creative and technical projects, every experience is intentionally designed to develop confident leaders, capable facilitators, and stronger communities. Our mission is not only to serve, but to pass the baton, empowering the next generation to create impact far beyond our own programs.
