About Us

Hinds' Feet Adventures is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, faith-based organization committed to equipping the next generation through adventure-based learning and experiential leadership development.

For more than 20 years, our team has walked alongside teens, families, and adults impacted by substance use, mental health challenges, and trauma, offering counseling, life skills development, and adventure-based therapy through hands-on programs in Colorado Springs and throughout El Paso and Teller Counties.

Today, we are entering a new chapter. While we no longer provide direct counseling services, our mission continues through training, mentorship, and partnership with those who serve area youth. We work to strengthen facilitators, educators, and community leaders by sharing the tools, values, and experience gained through decades of clinical and adventure-based work.

We are committed to creating environments where individuals feel safe, supported, and empowered, especially those in underserved communities. All of our staff are trained in trauma-informed care.

Our Mission

To empower individuals—especially youth and those who support them—to live meaningful, responsible, and self-sufficient lives through experiential learning rooted in Christian faith, practical skill-building, and emotional healing.

Meet our Founder & Executive Director

Shera Smith, MA, LPC, CAS, TRS, WFR

Shera Smith, our founder and executive director, is the heart behind Hinds’ Feet Adventures.

With over 35 years of experience in addiction counseling, adult and youth corrections, and therapeutic recreation and experiential learning, Shera brings unmatched depth, compassion, and innovation to her work. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Addiction Specialist, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (retired), and Wilderness First Responder, with a strong foundation in trauma-informed care, adventure-based therapy, and leadership development.

Shera has spent her career building programs in partnership with courts, probation systems, community corrections, treatment facilities, schools, and community organizations, including serving as an approved treatment provider for justice-involved youth and adults. Her work integrates clinical practice with outdoor behavioral health, adventure therapy, and experiential education to serve individuals navigating addiction, mental health challenges, and system involvement.

Shera’s passion is helping young people discover their worth and their voice, especially those navigating the justice system, addiction recovery, or mental health challenges. Through decades of hands-on work, she has built programs deeply rooted in both clinical integrity and real-world application.

Now, Shera is turning her attention to equipping the next generation of facilitators and leaders. She consults, co-leads, and trains educators, clinicians, and organizations to build culturally responsive, experiential programs that promote healing and growth. As a clinical supervisor, trainer, and program developer, Shera is committed to passing the baton by building sustainable systems that expand access to meaningful experiential education and therapeutic adventure programming.

Whether she’s designing experiential programs, training clinicians and facilitators, or facilitating a group through the Dare to Soar Challenge Course, a Hinds’ Feet Adventures program, Shera leads with clarity, compassion, and a deep calling to serve.
